I've been excitedly waiting for my copy of Rush: "Retrospective III" CD and DVD to arrive. It's actual release date is tomorrow, March 3rd 2009, but I got it today!
I placed my order just as quickly as I got the E-Mail about it, but disappointingly, I still wasn't among the first 100 orders, so my lithograph wasn't signed after all.
-Oddly, it wasn't numbered either.
I sent an E-Mail to Atlantic Records to find out why it wasn't numbered. I should have an answer by tomorrow I'm sure...
Happy, yet disappointed at the same time... -Yep, that's me.
I'm glad the DVD contained some of their music videos that I've never seen before like "Stick It Out", "Nobody's Hero", "Half The World", "Superconductor", and "Malignant Narcissism".
Despite my disappointment over the lithograph, it is an enjoyable CD/DVD set, and it is worth adding to your Rush library!
Last Summer, I showed everyone a Limited Edition Lithograph I received when I pre-ordered the Rush: Snakes And Arrows Live CD...
It was numbered #282 out of only 500 that were made.
Today, I pre-ordered the upcoming release of Rush: Retrospective III on CD and DVD, and I expect to receive a Limited Edition lithograph with my order. -They said that only the first 100 orderers will receive this lithograph, which leads me to believe that they are ONLY doing 100 of them. -ONE of which, I think is MINE!!!
(-If I wasn't in the first 100 orderers, they wouldn't have processed my order including it, right?)
MY order went through as ordered, WITH the lithograph!!!
I expect to receive it around February 23rd. If and when I get it, I will happily post a picture of it here, along with it's particular number-out-of-100!!! -I can HARDLY WAIT!!!
But, while we wait, shall we enjoy a song from "Snakes And Arrows"?
Malignant Narcissism (-Studio version)
This past April 14th, I wrote about receiving Rush's live CD of the Snakes And Arrows tour the day before it's official release. In that posting, I mentioned that I hadn't yet received the poster from my order.
-I just got it today!!!!!
It's not exactly a "poster", as posters go. -Posters are typically on a thin, glossy type of paper, where this was printed on a thicker sheet of construction paper-like material. And, if you look closely at the bottom right of this lithograph, you will see that it is numbered 282/500, meaning that only 500 of these were printed, and I got #282.
My wife and I will be getting a nice frame to put this in, and I'll also put my ticket stub from their "Test For Echo" concert in Las Vegas in it!
Officially, it's release date is tomorrow: Tuesday, April 15th, 2008.
(-Bumped up from April 8th, for some unknown reason. -Make you pay your taxes first, eh?)
;-)
However, those who pre-ordered it, received it TODAY!!!
I ordered the "Snakes..." bundle, which included the 2-disk concert and booklet, a Classic Starman T-Shirt and a Snakes And Arrows Lithograph/poster. (-which was shipped separately. -I should get it either tomorrow or Wednesday. -I'll show it to you when I get it!!!) But, here's the T-Shirt:
Personally, I prefer studio albums over the live ones. (-Not knocking Live CD's in any way) -No applause, no static of any kind, no mistakes or variations of the original songs, and fully intense. -I like the live stuff on DVD, or "live" as in "I was there to see the show". But, why collect a band's library of music, if you don't collect the live ones too?
Since I JUST got the CD, I'm still listening to it. (13 songs to go, out of the 27) However, on an interesting note, there are two songs here that have NEVER been on any live CD release: Entre Nous, from the Permanent Waves CD (1980) and Circumstances, from the Hemispheres CD (1978). -PLUS, there's a rarely live recorded song: Between The Wheels, from the Grace Under Pressure CD (1984) -Also, there's a nice surprise in "Far Cry".
I wish they would release a COMPLETE DVD of every music video they've ever done. -I'd buy it in a New York Second!!!
A little left of the topic, but there's something I wonder about:
On Rush's 1991 release "Roll The Bones", there's a song called "Where's My Thing (Part Four, Gangster Of Boats Trilogy)" 17 years later, and I wonder if they'll ever complete this four-part trilogy.
-I think it would be interesting.
From the "Snakes And Arrows" CD, this is "Malignant Narcissism".
Enjoy!
-But Neil Peart, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee IS in a BIG Rush!!!
-Once again, I present to you, the GREAT RUSH!!!
This is "Malignant Narcissism", from their latest release, "Snakes And Arrows".
It's one of my personal favorites, from this album. -I kinda think of it as a "YYZ - part 4" right now, but that's only what I'm kinda thinkin' of it right at this second...
-Great, laid-back JAM, on ANOTHER great Album/CD/MVI of theirs, that ONCE AGAIN, just leaves me speechless!!!
I credit the influence of The GREAT RUSH (among MANY others) for helping me to FINALLY overcome the POWER of an addiction, and for (maybe inadvertantly) helping me to find some better things I could be doing with my time.
I'll ALWAYS be grateful for their sharing of a better wisdom, some of their knowledge, and of a LOT of their better patience with people like me.
Thanks again, for bettering my thoughts, and re-reminding me of better patience!!!
-Sorry I didn't get it sooner...

"Feedback": -Haven't purchased yet. I've always liked Rush for their individuality, originality and creativity. I was saddened to see an album of cover songs. -Even MORE saddened to see they didn't cover one of MY songs!!! (-Just kidding!)
I'm TOTALLY looking forward to "Snakes And Arrows", being released May 1st!!!! I'm SURE it will be a nice addition to the library! I don't know for sure, but I suspect the title is a take-off from the Canadian comedy miniseries: "Slings and Arrows".
The movie of the day today is "RUSH: Rush In Rio"
This is, by far, the BEST Rush concert I've ever seen... Live or otherwise.
After over 30 years together, they celebrated their 30th anniversary together, and released this EXCELLENT concert, shot in Brazille. Every song, perfectly performed and shot crystal clear, and a bonus documentary disk. When you press "enter" on your remote, at the correct time, it will launch into "By-tor: The Movie" which plays onscreen behind them when they perform the song. Also, if you're able to choose the correct combination, you'll open an "Easter Egg" and be treated to "Anthem 1975".
My favorite performances from this disk were "Natural Science", "One Little Victory", "Secret Touch", "Leave That Thing Alone", "O Baterista" (Neil's Drum Solo), an acoustic version of "Resist" and "La Villa Strangiato".
To the side of this topic, I thought I'd mention that it was announced, JUST LAST NIGHT, that their NEXT studio album will be released May 1st, 2007.
I had been reading about how they had been working on new songs this past year, on Neil Peart's website. So, I've been looking forward to this new release. It's called "Snakes And Arrows", and they've posted (about) a ten second sample of their first single, "Far Cry", at Rush.com. I can hardly wait to get it!!!
I should also mention that their up for another Juno award, this coming April, for their "R30" DVD. -Congrads to the band!!!
