One thing I really wanted for Christmas (-besides relief from the torture Flori-duhh puts me through) was a Best Buy (or Wal Mart) Gift Card, worth at least $100, so I could "beef up" my DVD library some with missing, but wanted DVD titles.
I KINda got it... -I got two Best Buy Cards, worth $20 each.(drat, cool, drat, cool, drat, cool...)
(-I, later, asked them to let me keep the holographic one, which I have placed inside one of my purchases along with a hand-written note, listing the four DVD's I purchased with it)
So, I ventured off to Best Buy this morning with the $40 worth of gift cards, and spent $59 on four DVD's.
1) Full Metal Jacket. -I've had it on videotape for quite some time... I wanted the DVD, but there were others I was pre-occupied with. -Nice addition to the library!
-Me love it long time!
2) Blade II. -Another I've had on videotape for quite some time, and I'd already bought "Blade", and "Blade "Trinity", so this one finally completed the original trilogy.
3) Friday The 13th part nine: Jason Goes To Hell. Yep! -I've had this one on video for quite some time, but I hadn't been able to find this on DVD ANYWHERE 'till I saw it this morning. -I have the 5-disk "From Crystal Lake To Manhattan" Box Set, and I've had Friday The 13th part 10: Jason X on disk, but I couldn't find this DVD for well over 2 years. This was the pivital version that showed Jason's mask being grabbed by Freddy Kruegar, which was the "lead-in" to Freddy Vs. Jason. (-which I also have) This purchase completed my "Friday The 13th Series-on-disk". -I'm glad to have finally found it!!!
4) Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, 2-disk Special Edition (-Just like the 1st four I have) -This is the one I'm keeping the holographic Best Buy card in. This DVD also looks much better than the editor's version I was given online months ago!
Now, the DVD's I wished I could have picked up were "Married... With Children Seasons 7 & 8", "Tales From The Crypt Seasons 6 & 7" (-There's rumours of a soon-to-be-done third "Tales..." movie...) "The Simpson's Movie" with the Simpson's figurines (-I hope it's the version that didn't edit out Bart's nekkid-little-cartoon-pee-pee, but I'm not sure yet) "South Park: Season 10" and "Anatomy Of A Drum Solo" by Neil Peart. -So easy it is to fall behind on your favorite series...
-Eh, I'll catch up again...
My sister sent me a few DVD's for Christmas...
She sent me the movie "Serenity" (-which I've had in the DVD library for quite some time now) and the four-disk Box Set of the series "Firefly", which I hear has something to do with the movie. Even 'tho I had the movie (now I have two of them...) I haven't watched it yet, nor did I know anything about any series. -I ought to be able to get to it this weekend...
Re-focusing on real life, I have one more visit to the Physical Therapist, and I see the Specialist January 14th. -Hopefully, I'll be back to work by February. -Let's see what happens...
The nicest thing I got for Christmas was the knowledge that my niece returned from deployment alive, and all in one piece. (-I took comfort in the FACT that she hadn't been deployed with idiots, but well-trained members of our armed services.) I'm GLAD she's home, alive and well, and I wish I could see her NOW!
-Maybe someday soon...
Today, SHE is my Hero!
Once again I say, and wish, Happy Holidays to everyone!
-May we all do, and get better next year!
Todays' Movie Of The Day isn't really a movie, but part of a series. (-I'm sure this will happen occasionally here...) My selection was, of course, South Park: Season 9.
Released last week, this season offered us plenty of funnies and the usual level of controversy, ranging from Mr. Garrison's sex change to the now infamous "Trapped In The Closet" episode, which got yanked from Comedy Central (for a short time) for slamming Scientology and poking fun at Tom Cruise, John Travolta and R. Kelly. Isaac Hayes, well known here as the voice of "Chef", quit the show over this episode, which is just sad because it just goes to show how Scientologists just don't have a sense of humor when it comes to their cult. But, considering that 2 of the celebrities they made fun of said nothing about it, Tom Cruise and Isaac Hayes were the only ones who really pitched a major fit about it, so maybe some of them DO have a sense of humor after all.
Also included in this set was the funny "Die Hippie Die" episode, where Cartman is called upon after the town is over-run with hippies who want to hold a week long music festival; "The Losing Edge" where the all of the little league kids try to lose their games so they won't have to spend their summer playing baseball; "Ginger Kids" where the kids dye Cartmans hair and skin to make him think he's got "gingervitis", a "disease" that only red-headed kids "have"; "Bloody Mary" where a statue of Mary begins bleeding, and everyone thinks it's a miracle, and the very funny "Two Days Before The Day After Tomorrow" which pokes fun at the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" and the handling of Louisiana's Katrina incident.
Each season has been a nice addition to my library, and this one is no exception.
I wasn't an "instant fan" of the series. After the release of their "Bigger, Longer and Uncut" movie in 1999, a friend of mine convinced me to "check it out", and I did. I found it to be one of the funniest movies I'd ever seen, and began to watch the series. I can't remember any movie that had ever made me laugh so much, and the series is just as funny.
I'm now, and have been, a BIG fan ever since!!! -My thanks to Trey Parker and Matt Stone for their genius!
Today's Movie Of The Day is "Amadeus".
This fabulous 2 disk Special Edition Director's Cut features an extra 20 minutes of footage, including the partial nudity scene where Mozart's wife goes to get him a job.
This story, set in 1781 Vienna, has Antonio Salieri maddened with envy because the devine musical gifts he wishes for himself, were bestowed upon the crude, spoiled and childish Mozart. In his jealousy, he decides to rid the world of "God's little instument" by any means necessary.
This winner of 8 Academy Awards has fabulous, costumes, music and acting and should be in EVERY DVD library.
The movie of the day today is "RUSH: Rush In Rio"
This is, by far, the BEST Rush concert I've ever seen... Live or otherwise.
After over 30 years together, they celebrated their 30th anniversary together, and released this EXCELLENT concert, shot in Brazille. Every song, perfectly performed and shot crystal clear, and a bonus documentary disk. When you press "enter" on your remote, at the correct time, it will launch into "By-tor: The Movie" which plays onscreen behind them when they perform the song. Also, if you're able to choose the correct combination, you'll open an "Easter Egg" and be treated to "Anthem 1975".
My favorite performances from this disk were "Natural Science", "One Little Victory", "Secret Touch", "Leave That Thing Alone", "O Baterista" (Neil's Drum Solo), an acoustic version of "Resist" and "La Villa Strangiato".
To the side of this topic, I thought I'd mention that it was announced, JUST LAST NIGHT, that their NEXT studio album will be released May 1st, 2007.
I had been reading about how they had been working on new songs this past year, on Neil Peart's website. So, I've been looking forward to this new release. It's called "Snakes And Arrows", and they've posted (about) a ten second sample of their first single, "Far Cry", at Rush.com. I can hardly wait to get it!!!
I should also mention that their up for another Juno award, this coming April, for their "R30" DVD. -Congrads to the band!!!

Today's Movie Of The Day is "Airheads".
This is one absolutely funny movie that I snatched up the second I saw it on DVD.
These three rockers, calling themselves "The Lone Rangers", (he he he) got tired of their demo tape being rejected at every turn, so they break into a radio station to have them play it. When the DJ and the station manager refuse to play it, they take the station hostage with waterguns.
Being a musician myself, I totally understand the frustration one goes through when their song(s) seems to be ignored. -Although I've never taken a radio station hostage (with or without waterguns) I go through this kind of frustration always. People tell me they like my music, tell me how I'm doing a great job and I should "keep it up" and follow my dreams..., but they don't seem to like it enough to buy a CD. -They don't even ASK about a CD. In fact, no one really seems to take you, or your music seriously unless they've heard your song 900 times on the radio. -Which really kinda sucks. It seems that no one can really like your music until the "Media Gods" (radio, tv, newspapers, music companies, internet) TELL you to like it.
I've always dreamed, wished, hoped and fantasised about having an album (or just one song) just "EXPLODE" over the airwaves, and make a gazillion bucks. (-I've seen WORSE bands do it...) But it seems I'm just destined to dream.
-At least for now...

I went DVD shopping today, and I found a few things I wanted.
The one I have pictured here is one I've wanted for a while. A four disk re-release of concerts previously only available on videotape. RUSH: Replay x 3 includes "Exit... Stage Left", The "Grace Under Pressure" tour, a CD with the studio versions of the "Grace Under Pressure" tour and "A Show Of Hands". Now, I haven't watched it yet, but I'm a little disappointed at the track listings... Especially for the "Exit...Stage left" concert. -Theres some songs missing that were on the original CD release, that I was hoping to watch, but I'm sure it will still be great. -Yeah, this is looking more like a documentary of the "Exit... Stage Left" concert, with (I guess) their "highlights" from the tour. Darn! -I was hoping it was going to be the whole original concert. -Still great 'tho.
I also got 8 more.
"Whitesnake Live: In The Still Of The Night", "Queensryche: Live Evolution", "The Perfect Storm", "Hot Shots!/Hot Shots! Part Deux" (same disk), "Adventures In Babysitting", "Natural Born Killers", Stephen King's "The Tommyknockers" and "Grumpy Old Men/Grumpier Old Men" (same disk).
For those who don't already know, yeah I like to collect DVD's.
Speaking of movies, Dennis Quaid and tickets... I decided to go ahead and post another Dennis Quaid movie with tickets + two pins I was able to get my hands on. (-I'm not able to do that very often...) The only thing that would make this DVD package nicer would be Dennis Quaid's autograph!
Now, I can't honestly say I'm Mr. Quaid's biggest fan, (nothing against him 'tho) but he's been in a few good movies and this one's no exception. I mentioned in my "That's The Ticket" post about how I go to see movies at the theater, that I plan to buy on DVD. This (obviously) was one of those.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004) was about how global warming finally caught up to man, and caused major destructive weather pattern changes, which eventually thrusts the world into a partial ice age.
As spectacular as the special effects were, I would have liked to see more destructon and less of the "go find my son" drama. -I mean, c'mon!!! -This is supposed to be about the destruction that could happen from global warming in a "worst-case scenario". Well, I thought things could have been a whole lot worse than what they showed us here. More destruction, more deaths, etc. But, it was still a great flick, and I enjoyed it a lot. -Enjoyed it so much, I bought the DVD!
The nicest thing about the two pins was that one had the ocean flooding the Statue Of Liberty, while the other was of the statue after being frozen. I got the "frozen" one from Target, and the "wet" one from the radio station at the Rik Emmett show in 2004.
I decided that if I had nothing to really talk about, in these posts, then I would do this "Movie Of The Day" thing. -Could be interesting...
Todays' Movie Of The Day, is "Frequency" starring Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel. You'll probably remember Jim from "The Passion Of The Christ", but he was here before that, in 2000.
Dennis Quaid plays a firefighter, who is killed in a warehouse fire. 30 years later, his son John (Jim Caviezel) is a cop who begins using his dad's old Ham Radio during some sort of solar phenomenon, and soon discovers that the man he is speaking to is his dad... But his dad from 30 years ago.
By changing things in the past, he's able to save his dad from the fire, but sets in motion a murderous chain of events that they must solve before it destroys any chance of repairing their family.
It's a very interesting story in a time-travelling sort of way...-Without time travel.
It's an excellent, suspense-filled movie I think you would enjoy.
Photo: Show Us A Ticket...
One of these days, I'm going to have to stop getting these posting ideas from my friend, Lynn... But, I like the ones she's been coming up with so far...
I have a few for you to look at.
From right to left, we begin with a set of tickets to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre VI: The Beginning" on October 7th of 2006. -I went with my wife, and we both enjoyed it. We agreed that part five was more intense, and therefore better than this part six. But, we liked it, and thought it would be a nice addition to the DVD library.
In the middle, there are three tickets to "Saw III". -Our nephew took us, as a nice thing to do, and we enjoyed it as well. We agreed that part two was totally better than this one. (Amanda turned into a crazy weirdo freak, when she was sooo cool in part two. -Whatta waste.) Barring that, we still enjoyed it.
Every time we go see a movie, it's likely to be one we will end up getting the DVD for when it comes out. We save the ticket stubs, and keep them in our DVD's. -We really haven't been going to the theaters very often, because we're quite sick of the price-gouging on concessions... (Seriously, $10 for two medium sodas and 1 medium popcorn?) -Can't smoke in the theater, can't pause the movie and go to the rest room... -We'll usually just wait for the DVD. But, now that I've stopped smoking, this could change.
On the left, (Stage Left...) we have my favorite ticket. This ticket was for Rush, November 24th 1996, in Las Vegas. -The "Test For Echo" tour. I'd been in Vegas for about seven months when this show came to the Thomas & Mack Center. I've seen Rush three times: The "Roll The Bones" tour, The "Counterparts" tour and (of course) this one. (Test For Echo). -Three tours in a row.
-I played guitar out in front of the concert hall for the first two concerts. -Lotsa fun! -It was one of those things we did for fun... Play guitar for other fans, while waiting for the show to begin.
