We're finally down to the last ten songs of my list, and I thought I would end it with a little surprise!!!
Yes, I am posting the first new song we did this year!
It's called "Hero", it's 2 minutes 42 seconds long, it was done by Dan and I this past week, and I'm posting it despite the fact that my strike doesn't officially end until this coming Wednesday. -I will post it at the end of my list!
Ok, here we go!
#10: Van Halen - "Little Guitars".
Most Van Halen fans know that this is a two-part song, an intro and the song it's self. -Both are here.
#9: Heart - "Crazy On You".
#8: Rush - "Available Light".
#7: Journey - "Escape"
#6: Queensryche - "Eyes Of A Stranger".
#5: Marillion - "Sugar Mice"
I told my friend Mainmor about this song's mention of "A Sunday in Milwaukee in the rain..."
#4: Neil Diamond - "Yesterday's Songs".
A while back, I told my friend Shellakers that I was going to post a Neil Diamond song, but she'd probably never guess which one it was going to be!
#3: Milla Jovovich - "It's Your Life".
#2: Yngwie J. Malmsteen - "Blue".
-Now THAT's a blues song!!!!
#1: Ministry - "Jesus Built My Hotrod".
Well, that concludes my list! I certainly didn't include EVERY favorite song I've ever liked (-That would take forever) but I think I pretty much covered the majority of favorite bands of mine.
Now, for the moment we've all been waiting for:
Our first song of 2008: "Hero". -I will write out the lyrics beneath this MP3 for your convienence.
-Enjoy!
Hero
(Nelson/Vans)
Oh... I saw you hero... Zero...? Oh...
I saw you "hero"... -I saw you push them to the ground.
Imposter, schoolyard zero... Who's going to catch you when you fall?
Windows of angels... -Doorways to endless shattered dreams
Unarmed, another sleepless night - Right now, I'll make it through the night
I saw you hero...! -That one who caught him when he fell
-They kicked, you picked him up like a saint, and you're my hero tonight
Windows of angels... -Doorways to endless shattered dreams
Unarmed, another sleepless night - I swear we'll make it through the night
(Absent guitar solo) Yeah... -I saw you hero.... Zero...., Oh.
Windows of angels... -Doorways to endless shattered dreams
Alone, another sleepless night - I know we'll make it through tonight
Windows of angels... -Doorways to endless shattered dreams
Alone, until you come with me - We're going to make it through this night
Lyrics: Jim Nelson 3/6/08
Music: Dan E. Vans, Jim Nelson 3/2/08
Oooh! -Down to the last 20 songs!!!
It's kinda weird how this all worked out to end just in time for me to end my strike!
#20: Sammy Hagar - "I'll Fall In Love Again".
From one of my all-time favorite albums: "Standing Hampton" from 1981. Just before the Writer's agreed to end their strike, I had "snuck out" to jam with a few friends (see February 12th, 2008 archive post) and played an acoustic version of this.
#19: April Wine - "Just Between You And Me".
This recording was a little loud for some strange reason. -Check your speakers before playing it!!!
#18: Firehouse - "Don't Treat Me Bad".
There's a secondary reason Firehouse made my list. See, as much as I despise the way my first marrage ended up, it was this lead singers' preacher-brother who had married us.
#17: The Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Higher Ground".
This is a fine example of how to properly remake a song!!!
#16: Kiss - "Forever".
Most Kiss fans might consider this statement to be "blasphemos", but I mostly liked the music of Kiss better AFTER they lost the makeup.
#15: Pat Benatar - "Promises In The Dark".
#14: Phil Collins - "I Don't Care Anymore".
I was at Band Camp when this first became a favorite...
#13: Rush - "Time Stand Still".
#12: Led Zepplin - "Kashmir"
#11: I Mother Earth - "Rain Will Fall".
Well, that's it for this week. -The last 10 will be posted next Sunday, so come check them out!!!
Wow, we're just FLYIN' through this list, aren't we?
#30: Boston - "I Need Your Love".
How many people were saddened to hear that Brad Delp had taken his own life? Boston has long been a favorite of mine, and their music will live on for me.
RIP Brad Delp.
#29: Winger - "Miles away".
-Still a long time favorite of mine.
#28: Tesla - "Song And Emotion".
#27: Skid Row - "Quicksand Jesus".
#26: White Lion - "Wait".
-This song has another of my all time favorite guitar solos in it.
#25: Bob And Doug McKenzie, featuring Geddy Lee of Rush - "Take Off".
Another humorous song has made it into my list!!! -I still smile every time I hear it!
#24: Triumph - "Lay It On The Line".
Rik Emmett still does this song live!!!
#23: Metallica - "Master Of Puppets".
#22: Rick Springfield - "I've Done Everything For You".
-Originally done by Sammy Hagar, this fine re-make shot Rick Springfield onto further fame outside of his "day job" as an actor in a soap opera.
#21: Megadeth - "High Speed Dirt"
There's some excellent guitar work on this, from the former Metallica member Dave Mustaine.
That's it for this week. -Just 20 more to go!!!
-Check back next Sunday for #'s 20-10!!!
